لا يكتسب هذا الكتاب أهميته من حوار، وشهادات، وقراءات، وتفاصيل كثيرة في حياة وشعر وكتابة محمد الحارثي فحسب: ولكن أيضاً لأنه شهادة مهمة على عصر عاشَتُه عُمان بكل ما فيه من تغيرات سياسية وإجتماعية وثقافية.
في حواره يأخذنا شاعرٌ سفَّار إلى طفولته، سارداً حكاية أمه التي فقدها بسبب حريق فاجع "كان سبباً جوهرياً في ضياع طفولته"، وحاكياً عن أبيه الذي كان مجلسه عامراً بشيوخ العلم والأدب، وعن البدع الفتّانة التي آسرته في مراهقته المبكرة أو طفولته المتأخرة ومنها جهاز الراديو الذي دفع شيخاً متزمتا لإطلاق النار على القمر!...
يعود بذاكرته وهو طفل إلى إسقاط طائرة لمنشورات في حوش بيته البسيط في 1974 تُعلن عن مكافأت مالية لمن يقبض على "الإرهابيين الشيوعيين الفارّين"؛ يعود حكاية مشاكساته للسلطة الدينية، بدءاً من تكفيره بسبب قراءة في قصيدة شعرية، ومروراً بإعادته الحياة لشاعر حاول المتدينون إختطافه لأغراضهم الإيديولوجية.
وليس إنتهاء برمي هؤلاء الأحذية في وجه شاعر مارس حقَّه في المطالبة بإسقاط مَمْتٍ، ورغم أنه التقط الرمزية الكاملة في هدية من "السلطة السياسية ليستمر في مكافحة السلطة الدينية" إلا أنه لم يوفر حتى هذه السلطة السياسية من مشاكساته أو لتقِّل من إختلافه، فهو في النهاية مثقف يؤمن أن "دوره الطبيعي أن يكون في الجهة المضادة للسلطة لحفظ توازنه وتوازنها" كما يقول في حواره الذي سيسرد فيه حكاية الليلة التي قضاها في زنزانة إنفرادية في سجن مركز شرطة مطرح، وكيف انتقم "بطريقته الخاصة - بعد نحو سنتين من هذه الليلة من المفتش العام الذي أمر بحبسه، كما سيحكي حكاية الساعة ونصف التي قضاها في مكتب واحد كان ولا يزال من أهم رموز السبلطة في عُمان.
تلك الدقائق التسعون التي لم تنجح في إسكات صوته المشاغب رغم "القهوة التركية والماء ومنفضة السجائر"، كما سيباغتنا برأي صادم في مجلة ثقافية ينظر لها كثير من المثقفين العمانيين بنوستالجيا تبجيلية.... وسيروي حكاية صداقاته مع شعراء من أربع رياح الأرض دون أن ينسى حكاياته مع سعدي يوسف وتقلباتها من الصداقة الحميمة إلى العداوة والهجاء.
