يشتمل هذا الكتاب على قصص الأنبياء المذكورة في القرآن الكريم. وهذه القصص قصها الله سبحانه وتعالى على نبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم لحكم خمس. 1-إظهار نبوته صلى الله عليه وسلم على رسالته، 2-أنه إنما قص عليه القصص ليكون له أسوة وقدوة بمكارم أخلاق الرسل المتقدمين والأولياء الصالحين فيما أخبر الله تعالى عنهم وأثنى عليهم، 3-أنه إنما قصّ عليه القصص تثبيتاً له وإعلاماً بشرفه وشرف أمته وعلو أقدارهم، 4-إنه إنما قصّ عليه القصص تأديباً وتهذيباً لأمته، 5-أنه قصّ عليه أخبار الأنبياء والأولياء الماضين، إحياء لذكرهم وآثارهم ليكون المحسن منهم في إبقاء ذكره مثبتاً له تعجيل جزاء في الدنيا حتى يبقى ذكره وآثاره الحسنة إلى يوم القيامة.
كتاب في القصص والأخبار ذكر فيه المؤلف قصص الأنبياء حسب ما ورد في القرآن مضيفا إليها كل ما جمعه من الآثار والإسرائيليات محاولاً شرح ما اتهم من قصصهم وأخبارهم، "وذكر في مقدمة كتابه أبوابا حول صفة الأرض والسماء فأورد أخبارا غريبة وقصصاً عجيبة.
