يتناول هذا الكتاب تاريخ الكويت منذ النصف الأول من القرن السابع عشر الميلاد. وكانت تعرف الكويت في البداية باسم قرين حيث نزل فيها بعض القبائل التى هاجرت من الجزيرة العربية ومنهم الصباح والخليفة والجلاهمة. وبسواعد رجال الكويت المخلصين استطاعت أن تستقل عن التبعية. وكان أهل الكويت يعيشون على التجارة التى ازدهرت بسبب الموقع الجغرافي، حيث كان يسافرون إلى الهند وزنجبار وأفريقيا وكانت التجارة التى تمر عبر الخليج العربي والتى تحملها السفن الكويتيه وصيد اللؤلؤ المصدرين الرئيسيين لدخل الكويت ولم يكن هناك سوى المطوع الذي يدرس القران بعد ذلك أنشئت المدرسة ا لمباركية وتلتها المدرسة الأحمدية كذلك لم يكن هناك سوى المستشفى الأمريكاني الذي شيدته الارسالية الأمريكية ومستشفى النساء الذي أنشئ عام 1930 وبعد ذلك بدأت الدوائر الحكومية مثل دائرة المعارف والصحة والأمن العام والشرطة. وفي عهد الشيخ عبد الله السالم تطورت الكويت بسرعة مذهلة في المجالات التعليمية والصحية والاجتماعية والثقافية والسكانية وغيرها من المجالات الأخرى. حتى جاء اليوم الكبير واستقلت فيه الكويت وانضمت إلى جامعة الدول العربية وهيئة الأمم المتحدة وأخذت تشق طريقها نحو التقدم الحضاري بفضل سياستها الحكيمة في الداخل والخارج. فتخليدا لذكرى الرجال المخلصين الذين وضعوا اللبنات الأولى في بناء دولة الكويت الحبيبة والذين ضحوا بأرواحهم وأموالهم، وأقدم هذا الكتاب.
