بُدء العمل في هذا البحث الميداني قبل حوالي الثلاثين سنة، مع بدء الإنتفاضة الأولى، توقعت لهذه الإنتفاضة أن تنجح في إيجاد حل لمشكلتنا المستعصية، وأظنها كانت لتنجح في ذلك، لو تُرك للقيادة المحلية المجال لتستخلص حقوقنا، ولم تُجبرَ الإنتفاضة لإتفاقيات أوسلو، وتوقعتُ بخبرتي الميدانية أن تؤدي الإنتفاضة لمجيء آلاف الفلسطينيين لزيارة قراهم التي طردوا منها.
وبالتالي، فهم في حاجة إلى دليل يرشدهم إليهم، ولكن التخطيط النظري شيءً، والبحث الميداني شيءُ آخر.
تحول البحث الميداني إلى كتاب ملتزم بمشاكل القضية الفلسطينية، أكثر منه كتاباً إرشادياً للسياحة، وبعد أن صدرت الطبعة الأولى لكتاب الجليل، توجهت للمثلث، وهي القرى الثلاثين التي وهبها الملك عبد الله بكرم حاتميٍّ لإسرائيل في إتفاقية رودوس 1949، وأمضيت ثلاث سنوات في عملٍ ميداني يومي تقريباً.
وكان حظي جيداً أني وجدت الشخصيات البارزة وقت تسليم المثلث لا تزال حية، واستمعت إلى سردهم المرير عن كيفية التنازل عنهم، وكأنهم ملكٌ خاص، وكيف تعامل الحكم العسكري الإسرائيلي معهم خلال السنوات الثماني عشرة الأولى لإستلامهم، آمل أن أُصدر في السنة القادمة الطبعة الثانية لهذا العمل.
في السنة 2011 عملت من برلين لمدة تزيد عن الست سنوات على طبعة ثالثة لكتاب "الجليل... الأرض والإنسان"، وكبر العمل من تغطية 92 بلدة وقرية في الجليل، إلى أكثر من 265، و35 موضوعٍ ذي صلة، والصفحات من 270 صفحة إلى ما يزيد عن الـ 740، في مونتاج وخطٍ مضغوط لتقليل التكلفة، وهو كتاب معزز بمراجع عربية وإسرائيلية وغربية.
يكرس ريع هذين الكتابين لتأسيس "مركز حيفا الثقافي" في برلين، وبالتالي فإن في شرائه دعمٌ للنشاط الثقافي في برلين، وألمانيا بشكل عام.
