تصف ألمؤلفه فى هذه الرواية طفولتها الريفية القاسية ومعاملات الكبار لها ومن خلال وصفها نشعر كم كانت هذه الطفلة شفافة وحساسة ورقيقة الى درجة ان قطها جمل فاذا ما نظر اليها خالها نظره تأثرت بشدة كأنها طعنها بحربه واذا ما مشطت لها امها شعرها بقسوة حزنت مع ان كل الصغيرات تمشطهن أمهن بذات القسوة خاصة فى الريف الا ان الفتاة تعانى سوء ألمعامله فعلا من خالها الى حد يصل الى ضربها بدون سبب او بسبب سذاجتها كطفله .. والمؤلفة حين تكتب حزينة وتذكر بالتفصيل المشاهد التي رأتها فى صغرها كأبراج الحمام الذى لا يتوقف عن الهديل وكأنه يكلمها وأشجار النخيل التى تتفاعل معها حتى ان ظلها اذا ما حزنت ينغرس فيها واذا ما فرحت يظللها وتمتلئ الرواية بمرادفات ريفية مثل الطين والحب والأشجار والنخيل والطيور وأعشاشها والسواقي والثمار..
