سجلت إحدى البرديات التى تحدثت عن أسطورة "إيزيس وأوزوريس" الكلمات التى ذكرتها إيزيس لشفاء الطفل "حورس" بعد أن أشعل الكهنة النار فيه، تقول لبردية: "أخرج يا من تأتى فى الظلام وتدخل خلسة، هل أتيت لتقبل هذا الطفل؟ لن أسمح بتقبيله، هل أتيت لتأخذه؟ لن أسمح بأخذه منى؟ لقد حصنته منك بعشب أفيث الذى يؤلمك، وبالبصل الذى يؤذيك، وبالشهد الذى هو حلو المذاق للأحياء ومر فى فم الأموات.." ويتضح من الكلمات المذكورة أن قدماء المصريين استخدموا الأعشاب فى شفاء المرضى وكذلك فى عملية التحنيط التى برعوا فيها.
