البحث عن الذات، والرغبة في تجربة الحياة، خارج حدود المكان - الأصل، هو المجال الذي تدور حوله رواية "إطار البحيرة"، للكاتبة لطيفة الداود، فالإحساس النفسي بالمكان اتساعاً وضيقاً، والغير متناسب مع الأحلام التي تتوق إليها الأنثى في مجتمع عربي له عاداته وتقاليده، هو المحدِّد الحقيقي لمتخيَّل الخروج من الفضاء الأليف، إلى الآخر الغريب الأجنبي والمختلف، ولكن يبقى السؤال: هل يُمكن استبدال الهوية الأصلية بانتماء جديد وذاكرة بيضاء؟
"إطار البحيرة" قصة فتاة حالمة، هي مزيج من كائن أنثوي متعدد المواهب، تعيش مع والدها في الرياض بعد انفصاله عن والدتها، يقرر الوالد أخذها معه في رحلة عمل إلى اليابان، فتجد الفتاة في تلك الرحلة فرصة للاستقلال والعمل. تترك والدها من دون علمه، وتسافر إلى مدينة أخرى، وتبدأ حياة جديدة، وصوتٌ داخلها يقول لها ما العظيم في هذه الحياة كلها لأحاول الحصول عليه؟
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"ما زلت أحبهم ولأني كذلك ففي السنوات الثلاث الماضية كانت تتقلص أحرفي لأجلهم، أخاف أن أخطئ وأنطق بما رغبت قوله.. لكن البحيرة لفظتني فلم أستطع البقاء، لأني كنت سأخسر نفسي أو أخسرهم فضّلت أن أكون أنانية الآن.. لهذا أنا ماضية" يصمت خوفها وتسكت الأصوات في رأسها بعدما أطعمتها بما رغبت، تعود الحياة لقدميها وتصعد الطائرة...".
