يقول الأديب الفرنسي الظرف، الروائي الواقعي ذو النظرة الفاحصة الحادة جول رونار (1864- 1910): "نحن في هذا العالم لكي نضحك، فلن نستطيع أن نضحك لا في المطهر، ولا في الجحيم، وليس الضحك في الجنة مناسباً".
ويقول أديب فرنسي آخر معاصر هو بييردانينوس في وصف الضحك: "لعله الوحيد من بين مختلف أنواع العدوى ممّا يوصف للبشر".
على هذا الأساس، أسمح لنفسي في هذا الكتاب أن أنقل هذه العدوى غير الخطرة إلى القراء، ففي هذه الجولة الضاحكة التي ستقومون بها معي، فائدة ومغزى إلى جانب المتعة التي يُفترض أن تنطوي عليها.
قاموس الأقوال الضاحكة، قسمان: القسم الأول هو قاموس حقاً... ولكنه قاموس من نوع جديد طريف... قاموس ساخر، لاذع، جريء! هو ذا الوصف الذي أطلقه عليه واضعه الكاتب الفرنسي (المعاصر) الآخر موريس مالو.
في هذا القاموس جمع أذكى الأقوال وأطرفها وأروعها وأبعثها على طرد الملل والسأم من النفوس، ورتّبها ترتيباً أبجدياً كالقواميس تماماً، نقلته إلى العربية برمّته، ولن أطيل الكلام لأنني سأترك المجال للتعريفات التي يزخر بها هذا القاموس بالآلاف!...
