شغلت قبرص، منذ الحملة الصليبية الثالثة، دوراً مهماً، استمر حتى ما بعد تحرير عكا وتصفية الوجود الصليبي في بلاد الشام عام 1291. وصنف الصليبيون مجموعة من الكتب، عرفت باسم أعمال القبارصة؛ من أهمها الكتاب الثالث، الذي عاصر صاحبه ما أعقب الحملة الصليبية السادسة التي قادها الإمبراطور الألماني فردريك الثاني، كما عاصر الغزو المغولي لبلاد الشام ومعركة عين جالوت، وكان في عكا عندما حاصرها السلطان الأشرف خليل عام 1291. وكان أصل هذا الكتاب ضائعاً منذ زمن طويل إلى أن عثر عليه مؤخراً في العام 2001.
إنها المرة الأولى التي تترجم فيها هذه الوثيقة المهمة إلى العربية، بصورة أمينة وتنشر باللغة العربية بشكل علمي لائق.
