وهي من أهم المنظومات في علم الصرف، ومن أكثر المتون التي توالت عليها الشروح من العلماء على مر التاريخ، لما حوته من فوائد هامة لا غنى لطالب العلم عنها.
وجدير بالذكر أن المؤلف ابن مالك، رحمه الله، كان قد كمل بها ألفيته، وذلك بتخصيص مباحث الصرف بهذه المنظومة، وقد ركز فيها على صرف الأفعال، واشتهرت هذه المنظومة وعني بها العلماء وطلاب العلم وكافة الناس وعني بشرحها والتعليق عليها، ومن أهم شروحها شرح ابن الناظم وشرح بحرق اليمني الكبير، وله أيضا شرح صغير عليها، وشرح الصعيدي.
