إنَّ اسمَ ابنِ رُشدٍ يُمَثِّلُ فَضيحةً. فهاهُنا رَجُلٌ صاحِبُ أُطروحَةٍ مُفادُها أَنَّ العقلَ مُفارِقٌ للأفرادِ وواحِدٌ لِكلِّ الجنسِ البشريِّ. وما نتيجةُ ذلكَ؟ النَّتيجةُ هيَ نَفيُ إمكانِ "أنا أُفَكِّرُ": أي تَدميرُ العَقلانيَّةِ. وقَد أساءَ ذلكَ إلى أوروبّا طَوالَ خَمسةِ قُرونٍ. فكيفَ يُمكِنُ فَهمُ هذا التّاريخِ الذي يَجمعُ بينَ الانجِذابِ والرَّفضِ؟ وأنّى لنا أنَّ الرُّشدِيَّةَ التي رُفِضَت ابتِداءً لَم تَكُفَّ عَن مُعاودَةِ الظُّهورِ؟ هذا الكتابُ يُقَدِّمُ، مُستعينًا بفرويد، إجابَةً عن ذلكَ؛ فابنُ رُشدٍ، المعروفُ بإبي الوليدِ محمَّدِ بنِ أحمدَ بنِ رُشدٍ، هوَ أُنموذَجُ "الغَرابَة المقلِقَة" الذي أزعَجَ اللاتينيِّينَ.
