فريدة النقاش كاتبة صحفية ومعارضة يسارية مصرية. وأول امرأة تصبح رئيسة تحرير لجريدة الأهالي التي تصدر عن حزب التجمع الوطني التقدمي الوحدوي المعارض في مصر.
من مواليد 1 مارس 1940 في مدينة أجا في محافظة الدقهلية شمال القاهرة. حصلت على ليسانس الآداب من جامعة القاهرة العام 1962، عملت في عدة مؤسسات إعلامية مثل وكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط وجريدتي الجمهورية والأخبار المصريتان، إضافة لكونها رئيسة تحرير جريدة الأهالي فهي رئيسة تحرير مجلة أدب ونقد المعروفة، وهي زوجة المعارض السياسي حسين عبد الرازق. وأخت الصحفي رجاء النقاش.
كما أنها عضو مؤسس لحزب التجمع الوطني التقدمي الوحدوي، فهي عضو في عدة جمعيات ومؤسسات مدنية ونسوية وأهلية لحقوق الإنسان وحقوق المرأة.

انتجت مادة هذا الكتاب فى خضم صراع ممتد مع افكار شائعه قوته لكتاب ومفكرين وشيوخ ونساء ورجال قاوموا العملية التاريخية لتحرير المراه التى بدات فى نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وما تزال جارية ، مستهدفه الوصول بالمراة الى وضع المواطن الكامل وتحريرها من الاستغلال ولم يكن هؤلاء تعبيرا عن انفسهم فقط بل غالبا عن قوى اجتماعية وسياسية فعالة لها مشروعاتها وبرامجها التى اكتسبت شرعية اضافيه لكونها تكسب الى صفها ملايين النساء الذين يندفعن بوعى او بدون وعى اليها وقد تضافرت الجهود ضد المراه بين قوى الاسلام السياسى الذى صور جسد المراة لصورة للشرف القومى والشخصى وتعتبرها عورة وبين سياسة الليبرالية الجديدة والتكيف الهيكلى وما سمى بالانفتاحالاقتصادى الذى استغل المراه للدعاية كسلعه اقتصاديه تستخدمها فى الاعلان والترويح للبضائع ويلتقيان معا فى مد الاول الثانى بالتفسيرات الفقهية اللازمة لتحقيق المناسب للمجتمع وينتج عن هذا الواقع مقاومه تشتد وتخفت وينتج عن ذلك نتائج مثل الحركة النسائية الجديدة التى تطمع لبناء عالم قائم على العدل والمساواة والحرية .. وتثير المؤلفه فى هذا الكتاب جدلا فى الحياة الفكرية والسياسية وضمن الحركة النسائيه وحركة حقوق الانسان ليغتنى بأفكار جديده وبالنقد على نحو خاص .
