يحاول المؤلف بتاليفة هذا الكتاب ان يدفع عن تراث الامه العربيه المعجمى الخاص بالمصطلحات اتهاما ردده كثيرون واراد ايضا بيان ما فى التاليف العربى المعجمى من عناية فائقةةلغه الاصطلاح وهى لغه لازمة لضبط مسائل العلوم لان ادراك المفاهيم وتصورها واتضاحها خطوة تالية لوضوح المراد من المصطلحات ومن هنا وان بالامكان ان نقرر ان المعجم المتخصص شئ قبل العلم ولا مغالاة فى الامر ان خلنا انه شئ فوق العلم والمصطلح الاصول ضارب بجدوره فى كثير من العلوم الاسلامية مثل علم الاستنباط وهو جزء مهم وكبير منها يتوجه الى الادله الكليه وقد توجهت عناية هذه الدراسة الى اظهار ما توصل اليه اصحاب المعالجم الاصولية التراثيه من اصول ما يقوم به الدرارسون المعاصرون فى تطرية المعجم صناعة ومعجمية مما يؤكد الحقيقه المعلنه المتعلقة بتقدم الدرس المعجمى العربى .
يدرس هذا الكتاب في فصلين أمرين يمثلان مقدمة أساسية في مفتتح هذه الدراسة التي تعني بدراسة المعاجم الأصولية من حيث صناعتها ومعجميتها، أي من حيث الشكل والمضمون وهذا الشكل والمضمون وهذا الفصلان المكونان لهذا الباب هما كما يلي: الفصل الأول: نشأة المصطلح الأصولي وعلاقته بعلم المصطلح، الفصل الثاني: المعاجم الأصولية في العريبة: دراسة توثيقية إحصائية (ببلوجرافية) وراقية.
وسوف نرى من مجموع هذين الفصلين عددًا من الملاحظات المهمة يأتي فى مقدمتها ملاحظة حول تأخر التأليف في المعاجم الاصطلاحية أو الخاصة بوجه عام والمعاجم الأصولية بوجه خاص. ونحن نرجع السر في ذلك إلى عدد من الحقائق التي تقرر أن العلوم الإسلامية أخذت زمنًا طويلًا في رحلة استقرارها وبيان منهاجها، وظهور الحاجة التعليمية إلى تجريد المصطلحات في معاجم مستقلة لخدمة العملية التعليمية والعملية.
