وترجع أهمية هذا الكتاب إلى أن المعجم أصبح يشكل أداة تواصلية مهمة بين القارئ والمستجدات المختلفة، فهو الهوية اللغوية والثقافية والحضارية للأمة، كما يمثّل عند بعضهم أداةً تربويةً وعقدية، غير أن الملاحَظ أن المعجمات العربية لم تحظَ بالإهتمام الكافي والدراسات الوافية، فيحاول هذا الكتاب دراسة هذه القضايا دراسة دقيقة ومنهجية بعيداً عن الدراسات التقليدية ويهدف البحث من ذلك إلى صناعة معجم عربي يواكب الحركة المعجمية المتجددة ضمن الخصوصية العربية لغة وثقافة.
