كثيرا ما نسمع المرافعات المدافعة عن اللغة العربية لغة القرآن فتقف هذه المرافعات عند حد الصياح لا أكثر ولا أقل ولكن مؤلف هذا الكتاب دفاعًا عن اللغة العربية قرر أن يتخطى هذه المرحلة الصوتية إلى مرحلة اخرى مدعمة بالدلائل والبراهين وإحياء ما يراد به الموت فقام بتقديم هذه الدراسة في فرع لم يتقدم إلى إقتحامه إلا القليل وهو صناعة المعجم والمعجمية فبدأ دراسته بمناهج العلماء المسلمين في هذه الصناعة ثم مدارس المعجم الفقهي وعلاقتها بصناعة المعجم واخيرا يتناول قضايا الدلالة في المعاجم الفقهية وعلاقتها بالمعجمية الحديثة.
هذا الكتاب يتناول موضوعًا جديدًا جديرًا بالدراسة لم يسبق لأحد أن درسه ولم تتم معالجته من قبل إلا في صفحات قليلة. وهو يتناول قطاعًا هامًا من قطاعات العمل المعجمي ألا وهو معاجم المصطلحات ولا سيما فيما يتعلق بمصطلحات الفقه الإسلامي. وقد قدم لكتاب تقسيمًا دقيقًا لمدارس المعجم الفقهي العربي، كما أحصاها إحصاء دقيقًا ودل على المخطوط منها والمطبوع.
ثم أثبت الكتاب أن مدارس المعجم الفقهي العربي قد توصلت إلى أصول صناعة المعجم كما عرفها المعاصرون كما تكفل الكتاب بتحليل المعاجم الفقهية من وجهة النظر اللغوية وكان حريصًا في كل ما قدم على الاستيعاب والتتبع والتحليل وقد ختم الكتاب بعدد وافر من الفهارس النافعة. وبهذا يصح أن يخدم الكتاب اللغويين وعلماء الفقه وأصوله والمشغولين بحركة الفكر الإسلامي على إطلاقة.
