يعتبر البحث العلمي احد الأسباب الرئيسية في تقدم الدول وأحد المؤشرات المهمة التى تدل علىتطورها وحضارتها. و لاشك أن البشرية في حاجة إلى البحث العلمي لأن الحياة الإنسانية لابد لها أن تتطور وتتقدم حتى تواجه التغيرات التى تستجد عليها ولانه لا تطور ولا تقدم إلا بالتفكير والبحث العلمي للوصول إلى حل المشكلانت ومواجهة المستجدات التى تواجه الإنسان. ولما كان الدارسون والباحثون الذين يعدون بحوثهم ورسائلهم الجامعية يواجهون بعض الصعوبات بسبب نقص المعرفة الكافية بمناهج البحث وأساليب جمع البيانات وتنظيمها، فاننا سوف نحاول في هذا الكتاب تقديم عرض سهل وموجز عن البحوث أنواعها ومواصفاتها وشروطها وأيضا عن صفات الباحثين الناجحين كما سنقدم دراسة عن مشروع البحث وعناصره وأدواته مرورا باختيار الموضوع قم نعرض لمناهج البحث وعناصره وأدواته مرور باختيار الموضوع ثم نعرض لمناهج البحث المختلفة وشرح كيفية جمع البيانات والوصول إلى مصادر المعلومات والتعريف بها ووصولا إلى الكتابة الفنية للبحث أو الرسالة وطريقة توثيق الاستشهادات المرجعية وإعداد الببلوجرافيا. وإذا كانت البشرية - كما سبق أن أسلفنا - في حاجة إلى البحث العلمي فإن مصر والأمة العربية في أشد الحاجة إليه لحل المشكلات العلمية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية والتغلب على المصاعب التى تواجهها وإذا كانت قد تمت خطوات سابقة في هذا الشأن بالتوسع في إنشاء المراكز البحثية المتخصصة وبناء الجامعات والمعاهد العلمية فإننا مازلنا في أشد الحاجة إلى رصد الميزانيات الكبيرة لتطوير هذه المراكز والجامعات وإلى المزيد من الجهود المخلصة لنلحق بركب التقدم العلمي ونصل إلى ما وصلت إليه الدول المتقدمة.
