نقرأ في هذا الكتاب رسالة من تأليف الحافظ إبن كثير الدمشقي (701-774ه)، تشتمل كما يشير العنوان على "فضائل القرآن" وتاريخ جمعه وكتابته ولغته ونسخ المصحف الإمام وخطه ونقطه وعدّه ومده وترجيعه وسماعه وغيرها من قراءات القرآن "تواتر أحاديث الأحرف السبعة" ، وأقوال العلماء في معنى السبعة أحرف، ومعارضة جبريل للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم القرآن في قوله ... عن طريق عائشة رضي الله عنها: "إن جبريل كان يعارضني بالقرآن كل سنةٍ، وإنه عارضني العام مرتين، ولا اراه إلا حضر أجلي". والمراد من معارضته له بالقرآن كل سنة مقابلته على ما أوحاه إليه الله تعالى ليبقى ما بقي، ويذهب ما نُسخ توكيداً، واستثباتاً، وحفظاً، ولهذا عرضه في السنة الأخيرة من عمره – عليه السلام – على جبريل مرتين، وعارضه به جبريل كذلك، ولهذا فهم – عليه السلام – اقتراب أجله،. ثم جاء عثمان - رضي الله عنه – فجمع المصحف الإمام على العرضة الأخيرة. وخُصَّ بذلك رمضان من بين الشهور؛ لأن ابتداء الإيحاء كان فيه.
يشتمل هذا الكتاب على فصول كثيرة في فضائل كتاب الله ومنها، فضل القرآن على سائر الكلام، ومن لم يتغنَّ بالقرآن وقول الله تعالى: "أولم يكفهم أن أنزلنا عليك الكتاب يتلى عليهم" ، واغتباط صاحب القرآن، وخيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه، ونسيان القرآن وقول الله: "سنقرئك فلا تنسى، إلا ما شاء الله" ، وفي كم يقرأ القرآن؟ وقول الله تعالى: "فاقرءوا ما تيسر منه" (...). وأخيراً كتاب الجامع لأحاديث شتى تتعلق بتلاوة القرآن وفضائله وفضل أهله؛ وذكر الدعاء المأثور للحفظ وطرد النسيان.
