هذا كتاب "الصناعيتين" لمؤلفه أبي هلال الحسن بن عبد الله بن سهل العسكري ولد في عسكر مكرم ( من كور الأهواز) واليها نسبته وانتقل إلى بغداد والبصرة وخلف كثيرا من الكتب ، منها : جمهرة المثال والصناعتين وديوان المعاني والمصون في الأدب والوائل وغيرها مما يدل على اطلاع واسع وذهن ناقد ويرى ياقوت أنه توفى سنة خمس وتسعين وثلاثمائة.
اما كتابه الذي نقدم له "الصناعتين : الكتابة والشعر) فقد استعان في تاليفه بجل ما كتب سابقوه ممن عالجوا مثل موضوعه.
ونذكر من هؤلاء ابن سلام في كتابه طبقات الشعراء والجاحظ في كتابه البيان والتبين وابن قتيبة في كتابه المعاني الكبير وابن المعتز في كتابه البديع وقدامه في كتابه نقد الشعر، والامدى في كتابه الموازنة والقاضي الجرجاني في كتابه الوساطة بين المتنبي وخصومه. وقد استطاع أبو هلال ان يعرض لنا زبدة هذه الكتب في كتابه حتى انه ليجعلنا نكاد نستغنى عنها جيمعا. الامضاء علي محمد البجاوي محمد أبو الفضل إبراهيم
