ساروا مسافةً لا تتعدّى مائتي مترٍ حتّى انتهتِ الأشجار إلى ساحةٍ مستديرة بانتظامٍ عجيب يُوحي بأنّ صانعها أعدّها كمسرحٍ لشيءٍ ما يتناسبُ معها، وقبل أنْ تخطو أرجلُهم خطوةً واحدة داخلها، إذا به يخرجُ في مواجهتِهم، وبخطواتٍ قليلة بلغَ منتصف الدّائرة وتوقّف عندها بجسمٍ مشدودٍ ورأسٍ مرفوعٍ, كأنّما يعلن ملكيّته لها وقدّسيتَها له، ارتجفتْ أوصالهم, وذهلتْ أعينُهم المتّسعة, والتي عجزتْ عضلاتُ الانقباض أن تعودَ بها لوضْعها الطّبيعي, وهُم لا يستطيعونَ الذّهابَ ببصرهم عنْه، إنّه ذلك الكائنُ الضّخم المَهيب، ولم يكنْ ذلك المصدرُ الوحيد لذهولِهم ورعبِهم الذي ألمّ بهم، بل للمكوّنات الغريبة التي تظهرُ عليه، ومِن أعماق سحيقةٍ أخيرًا استطاعوا أنْ يروا لمعةَ عينيْهِ التي تحدقُ بهم بمثلِ ما يفعلون نحْوه.
