It is true that we are used to red history not watch it and the tools of the historians in previous times were the story, the pen and the word not the lens. However, human beings have felt, since the beginning of time, that history is not just words being narrated and that photos, shadows and colours can express what words cannot express, so they longed for the rocks to tell future generations about past times.
Hence, we have these scriptures, statues and elaborate wall paintings that were left by creative historians and artists.
Today the picture has become the prime feature of our cultures, scientific research and media tools. So it is natural that the lens of the artist / historian searches for events everywhere to capture them live as soon as they happen and broadcast them to all corners of the globe, so that future generations can observe these events, gain the experience and most importantly learn from them.
Omar El- Houni is one of these artists/ historians that have attempted during the past twenty years and throughout the February revolution to capture, with his professional lens, the movement of Libyans in exile and to introduce it to us and to history through taking these creative artistic shots during their occurrences.
These photos have become a thing of the past, but they still impinge on our lives to remind us, through these live captions, of the huge sacrifices that young and old Libyans have made to reach the moment of victory and to celebrate getting rid of a long dark period that overshadowed Libya for over forty years.
