فعهد إسماعيل وهو عصر طويل يتمثل فيه تاريخ مصر القومي والسياسي في إبان النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر ويعد عصرا هاما له أثره النافع كما له أثره الضار في تطور الحركة القومية ذلك لما تفتحت فيه من آمال وما قام فيه من نهضة ورقي وعمران ثم ما تخلله واقترن به من أخطاء وأرزاء أدت إلى التدخل الأجنبي.
