يعد الإمام الجنيد من كبار الأمة في تاريخ التصوف الإسلامي وله باعه الطويل في رحلة الوصل والوصال.. ورغم هذه الأهمية لشيخ الطريقة وإمام الحقيقة إلا أن تراث الرجل مازال جله مطمورًا ولم يخرج إلى حيز النور. وكانت هناك مجهودات في هذا المضمار منذ زمن، حيث قام الدكتور حسن عبد القادر بتحقيق بعض هذه المخطوطات وقدم دراسة عن حياته مع ترجمة باللغة الانجليزية، ومنذ ذلك التاريخ لم تمتد أيدى الدارسين لتحقيق باقي مخطوطات الإمام. وبهذا العمل الموسوعي المتكامل أصبحت رسائل الإمام وأقواله المنسوبة إليه وأشعاره بين أيدى الدارسين والباحثين. وينقسم الكتاب إلى عشرة أبواب، الأول بعنوان "في القصد إلى الله تعالى وما يستقبله من العقبات"، والباب الثاني "في ترك الوقوف مع المنازل والمقامات"، وأما الباب الثالث "في بيان الحق"، والباب الرابع "في إجابة القاصدين"، والباب الخامس "فيما ينبغي للقاصدين"، والباب السادس "للقاصدين من رعاية النفس والروح"، وأما الباب السابع "في مشاورة النفس والروح"، والباب الثامن "في نعت القاصدين"، والتاسع "في رؤيا أبى يزيد"، وأخيرا الباب العاشر" في حكايات القاصدين إلى الله تعالى وقصصهم.
