هذا المجلد يحتوي على تحقيق رسائل الجنيد, وهو أول محاولة لتقديم جل تراث الجنيد إلى المكتبة الإسلامية. فالإمام الجنيد من الأئمة الكبار في تاريخ التصوف الإسلامي في القرن الثالث الهجري, وله باعه الطويل في رحلة الوصل والوصال, ورغم هذه الأهمية لشيخ الطريقة وإمام الحقيقة إلا أن جل تراثه ظل مطموراً ولم يخرج إلى حيز النور. لقد كان حرياً أن تكون رسائله محققة بين أيدي القراء والدارسي هذا المجلد يحتوي على تحقيق رسائل الجنيد, وهو أول محاولة لتقديم جل تراث الجنيد إلى المكتبة الإسلامية. فالإمام الجنيد من الأئمة الكبار في تاريخ التصوف الإسلامي في القرن الثالث الهجري, وله باعه الطويل في رحلة الوصل والوصال, ورغم هذه الأهمية لشيخ الطريقة وإمام الحقيقة إلا أن جل تراثه ظل مطموراً ولم يخرج إلى حيز النور. لقد كان حرياً أن تكون رسائله محققة بين أيدي القراء والدارسين منذ زمن طويل, ويبدو أن هناك بعض العوامل- فيما نعتقد- كانت حائلاً دون ذلك فيما يبدو لنا, أولها أن معظم هذه الرسائل كانت منسوخة بطريقة رديئة وسقيمة مم تكلف المحقق جهداً وتؤدة وأناة- كما هو معروف- في منهج المحققين. أمر آخر أن البعض يعتقد أن تراث الجنيد مجرد أقوال متناثرة بين أمهات الكتب والمراجع الصوفية, ولا تمثل سوى القدر اليسير. وقد أصبح مجمل هذه المخطوطات بعد التحقيق ستة عشر مخطوطاً, بالإضافة إلى معظم ما تركه الإمام من رسائل أو أقوال متناثرة في مصادر التصوف. وبعد هذا الجهد المتواضع أصبح جل تراث الجنيد, في متناول أيدي الدارسين والباحثين, وعلى الله قصد السبيل.
والإمام الجنيد هو أبو القاسم الجنيد بن محمد النهاوندي ثم البغدادي القوايري، والده الخراز، هو شيخ الصوفية، ولد سنة نيف وعشرين ومائتين.
وكان فقيهاً تفقه على أبي ثور، وكان يفتى في حلقته، وصحب السري السقطي، والحارث المحاسبي، ومحمد بن غلي القصاب البغدادي.
وكان تلميذاً أيضاً لمعروف الكرخي وغيرهم من أئمة القوم وسادتهم. مقول على جميع الألسنة قيل عنه: صوفي متكلم اشتهر بأنه سيد الطائفة، ومقدم الجماعة، وإمام أهل الخرقة، وشيخ طريقة التصوف، وعلم الأولياء في زمانه، وبهلوان العارفين.
