عمار علي حسن هو كاتب وباحث في العلوم السياسية بمصر.
تخرج في كلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية، جامعة القاهرة، عام 1989، وحصل على الدكتوراه في العلوم السياسية عام 2001.
لديه عدة مؤلفات سياسية مهتمة بالجماعات الإسلامية في مصر والوطن العربي، كما لديه عدة مؤلفات قصصية وروائية.
هو عضو نقابة الصحفيين واتحاد الكتاب في مصر، وعمل صحفيا بوكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط، ومديرا لمكتب صحيفة "البلد" اللبنانية بالقاهرة.
عمل أيضاً كباحث بمركز الإمارات للدراسات والبحوث الاستراتيجية بأبوظبي، ويتعاون مع عدة مراكز بحثية عربية في مشروعات بحثية، منها "مركز البحوث والدراسات السياسية" بجامعة القاهرة، و "مركز الدراسات السياسية والإستراتيجية بالأهرام"، وأكاديمية ناصر للعلوم العسكرية في مصر، "مركز الدراسات والوثائق القانونية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية" التابع للسفارة الفرنسية بالقاهرة، مركز دراسات التنمية السياسية والدولية، في إطار مؤسسة "الصحفيون المتحدون".
أما في مجال الأدب، فقد حصل على جوائز عربية ومصرية في القصة القصيرة.
كما حصل على نوط الواجب العسكري من الطبقة الثانية، أثناء تأديته الخدمة العسكرية كضابطا احتياطيا بالجيش المصري
