لقد تطلعت من قبل في صفحات الكتاب المفتوح, الكتاب الافتراضي, فلم أر سوي صورة ذلك الحشد المتلاطم, الخارج من البوابات الكبيرة, لا يعرف علي أين, لا ليس إلي سفينة نوح, ولا إلي جنة عدن, ولا إلي بلاد السندباد, ولا إلي - لكن إلي المحيط الذي أدي بهم إلي الصحراء.
حين يحس بطل الرواية بالخطر الذي جعله عاجزاً عن إتما الرسائل التي يكتبها لحبيبته يقرر التحول إلي مراقب لذاته ولمن حوله, يلبس قناعاً, ولا يستطيع ذكر الآخرين بأسمائهم الحقيقة, فيلبسهم أقنعة, يعاني ألم الروح فيستعيد كل الحلول, يصور مجازر الحوادث علي الطرق, وفي السماء فيخلص إلي ملحمة الضياع التي تعيشها شعب كامل, إنها تراجيديا كبيرة, ومأساة لا يعرف أحد كيفية الخروج منها, إلا ربما عبر الزمن, من يعرف.
وقد استعان الكاتب ضمنا بعدد من المراجع وكتابات الآخرين أخذها عن بعض الصحف بتصرف, وبعضها تمت الإشارة إليه في موضعه.
