في هذه الرواية يلعب المؤلف دور الراوي الذي يتكلم عن ابن عمه الجارح الذي قتل ويظن انه قتل على يد السلطة الساسية للبلاد .. فقد كان في ذلك الوقت كل أجهزة الدولة ناشطة لتصفية أعداءها وقد أخذ الراوي يقرأ مذكرات وكتباات ابن عمه والتى يقول فيها : كرهت الوظيفة وكرهت كل شئ .. لأسباب عديدة ربما لأن السيد على الأمير "مديرنا المخبر عنفني واتهمنى بالإهمال لأنني لم أنجز البحث المطلوب منى ، أو ربما لالآم" الصدر "و" الكحة الناشفة التى حرمتنى النوم ليلة امس أو ربما بسبب الحار الذي دار بينى وبين الشيخ عبد الصادق واعظ المركز الذي جائنا يخطب في مسجد العائلة وأفتى بتكفير من لا يصلى صلاة الجماعة وقد أفحمته فهو شيخ من نوعية وأطيعو الله وأطيعوا الرسول.. و من يكون عبد الصادق "أليس هو الذي ضبط في وضع يندى له الجبين مع زميل فه في المعهد الأزهري بطهطا وذاعت حكايته في القرى والنجوع.
