فرانكشتاين قصة خيالية، تطرح رؤية عصرية تؤكد بأن ليس كل الاختراعات العلمية مفيدة للبشرية، وإنما يوجد العديد من الاختراعات والابتكارات التي تهدد البشر في حياتهم، ومنها ابتكار الإنسان لآلات تساعده في حياته اليومية، وفرانكشتاين قصة تأتي في هذا الإطار وهي تروي قصة طالب استطاع بفضل تجاربه أن يكتشف سر الحياة، وهذا ما دفعه إلى ابتكار مخلوق ضخم الجثة، قاسي الملامح، هو أقرب إلى الوحش منه إلى إنسان، وجهته محاكمة زعماء العالم وقتلهم. ولكن الرياح في بعض الأحيان تجري فيما لا تشتهي السفن، فالوحش الآدمي لم ينتقم فقط من الزعماء، بل توجه أيضاً إلى الانتقام ممن جاء به إلى الدنيا وممن يحبهم.
إذاً إحدى أفكار هذه الرواية هي ظهور الوحش إلى الوجود واتصاله بعالم البشر ورفضهم له، وتعطينا هذه الفكرة نقداً مهماً للمجتمع الذي عاشت فيه الرواية وللفترة التي عاشت فيها وهي ما بين أواخر القرن الثامن عشر ومطلع القرن التاسع عشر.
ولما كانت هذه القصة من أجمل القصص التي ظهرت والتي تحكي وقائع خارجة عن المألوف الشعبي فد اعتنى بتقديمها مترجمة في هذه الطبعة التي بين أيدينا، كما واعتنى بإلحاق الترجمة بالنص الإنكليزي للقصة والهدف اطلاع الناشئة من الطلاب العرب على ما جاء في هذه القصة من وقائع.
