إن وجودنا فى هذه الحياة ما هو إلا لحظة في عمر الكون , ستمر حتماً وستنتهي في طرفة عين , وسيأتي بعدنا عشرات الأجيال , كل جيل سيودع الحياة ويسلم الراية للجيل الذي يلية قبل أن يحقق أغلب أحلامة , ولذلك يجب أن نعلم ما هو حجمنا الحقيقي في هذه الدنيا , وزمننا الحقيقي في هذا الكون , فهما أصغر كثيراً مما تتصور ورواية منزل ساشكين تغوص في الواقع الاجتماعي لقرية في عمق صعيد مصر , حيث تركز على الصراع الأزلي بين الضمير والنفس البشرية وحقيقة وجوده , والخط الفاصل بين الموت والحياة , حيث تتعرض الرواية لحقيقة أساسية مفادها قيمة الحياة وجوهرها , وحقيقة الموت والفناء , تلك الحقيقة المؤجلة والتي تتربص بنا ومدى إدراكنا لها وأثر وجودهما في تصرفاتنا , كالشعور بالذنب وعدم تقدير الذات ومساحة الأمل النابض في حيز الدهر من عمر الإنسان , والمسالمة الصعبة بين الكذب والصدق الذي ينبثق من أعماقنا , وإشكالية مقاومة اليأس والإحباط بسبب المعاناة من ظروف الحياة القاسية.
