الرواية، واحدة من التجارب القليلة التي يشترك في كتابتها شخصان، تدور في عالم غرائبي بأسماء بعضها أسطوري والبعض الآخر معتاد تجرى في أزمنة مستقبلية، يسردان الرواية من خلال حوار دائر بين غريبين أحدهما بطل الرواية «ارجموند» قائد جيوش مدينة أطلانتس والآخر رجل عجوز يسكن كهفًا بالغابات، تدور الرواية حول العالم الذي تعرض للهلاك والدمار نتيجة لتخريب البشر وطمعهم فهرب واحد من البشر «مالك» إلى تلك المدينة الخاوية «أطلانتس» ليعمرها ويسكن بها وينجو بمن معه من بشر.يقتصر العالم بالنسبة للأجيال التالية من أهل المدينة قبل الدمار على بعض وريقات في كتب التاريخ ولا تحكي حقيقة ما حدث أو حقيقة ما آل إليه العالم، فظلت تلك الحلقة المفقودة تثير فضول الكثيرين لمعرفة كيف هو العالم خلف أشجار الكافور التي تحيط بالمدينة فيحاولون الهرب، يحاولون التحرر من سجن أطلانتس فيعودون أشلاء، وفي النهاية يشير المؤلفان إلى جزء ثاني ربما يرويان فيه عن ذلك العالم الخارجي أو عن الانتصار لدعاوى التغيير على دعاوى الاستقرار التي يروج لها من الحكام غالبًا من أجل السيطرة على البشر.
