محي الدين محمد بن علي بن محمد بن عربي الحاتمي الطائي الأندلسي هو أحد أشهر المتصوفين لقبه أتباعه وغيرهم من الصوفية "بالشيخ الأكبر" ولذا ينسب إليه الطريقة الأكبرية الصوفية.
ولد في مرسية في الأندلس في شهر رمضان الكريم عام 558 هـ الموافق 1164م قبل عامين من وفاة الشيخ عبد القادر الجيلاني وتوفي في دمشق عام 638هـ الموافق 1240م.
ودفن في سفح جبل قاسيون.
أهم كتبه : الفتوحات المكية.
فصوص الحكم.

قد تطفلت على موائد الكرام فنزيلهم لا يضام. فكان من تعلقي وحبي لعلوم سيدي محيى الدين بن عربي رضى الله عنه وبعد ما قمت بتآليف خاصة به رضى الله عنه كتأييد الصوفيه في المحموعةالحاتمية وحل الغريب من المجلد الأول من كتاب الفتوحات المكية للشيخ رضى الله عنه وكذلك مفتاح الفتوحات المكية أردت أن أتابع كتبه رضى الله عنه ومن اهمها كتاب (عنقاء مغرب) في معرفة ختم الأولياء وشمس المغرب دخلت هذه الميدان بكل اطمئنان لهذا السعى. وأصل التوفيق من الله ببركة حبهم رضى الله عنهم فأقول إن لفظ عنقاء في اصطلاح القوم اسم على غير مسمى ومثله لفظ الكبريت الأحمر. وما كل مسمى غير معروف يوصف بالعدم. فإن في الأذواق الدقيقة حضرة عزيزة لا يدرك كنهها وما كل موجود يحس ويدرك بالعقل فإن للحس والعقل حدودا يقفان عندها وما كل محال عقلا معدوم ذوقا وشهودا.
