كان بريشت يفكّر في سنواته الأخيرة بإعادة تسمية مسرحه وإطلاق صفة الجدلية، بدل الملحمية، عليه، فمسرحه هو يحق مسرح جدلي حواري يصوّر واقع مجتمع الملكية الخاصة بتناقضاته الشديدة، ويحاول أن يدفع المُشاهد على أساس معارف علمية، إلى الإسهام في تغيير وتجاوز تلك التناقضات لصالح مجتمع إنساني؛ وكان بريشت يعتقد بإستمرار، "أن لا وجود لفن عظيم دون أهداف عظيمة، وأن أسلوب المسرح الجديد هو الإجابة على الصعوبات التي تضعها أمامه المادة الجديدة والمهام الجديدة".
وعلى المرء أن يُسائلَ الواقع حول الأشكال الأدبية، وليس علم الجمال حتى ولا علم جمال الواقعية، إن تعزيز الرغبة في الحياة هو الهدف من النشاط الفنّي عند بريشت، على هذا دوّن في أورغانونه: "نعرف أنَّ للبرابرةِ فَنَّهُم، لنصنعْ نحن فَنَّاً آخرَ".
ماذا يعنينا الآن من كل ذلك؟...
المسرح العربي هو ما يعنينا، وتحديداً ذلك المسرح العربي الذي يجد في فقدان أيديولوجيا التغيير، فالتغيير بإطلاق المصطلحات ليس يوتوبياً، أما فيما يخصِّنا، فمعضلتنا أننا نحمل في دواخلنا يأساً مُرّاً يصوّر لنا في لاوعينا كلّ ما نتحمّس له يوتوبياً، فنقتل حماسنا بأنفسنا، ونقتل قدرتنا على الإبتكار والإنطلاق، لتتحول القناعة إلى شعار يجترّ، فقدان الرغبة في الحياة...
ما يعنينا هو المسرح الذي يبحث في النقاش، ليس فقط في نقاش ما إذا كان شيء ما "غير قابل للتغيير" إنما تسمية كل ما لم يتعرض للتغيير منذ فترة طويلة...
ما يعنينا هو قدرة المسرح على أن يكون حركة مهمة تناقش وتسهم في تغيير ما لم يتعرض للتغيير.
