بهذا السؤال الصادم يفتتح الشاعر سعيد الشيخ قصيدته الطويلة التي حوت مجموع صفحات هذا الكتاب ... قصيدة فلسطينية بامتياز أراد منها الشاعر أن تكون بياناً للحياة، تشارك بإلقائه جميع الكائنات التي وجدت نفسها فريسة للملقيات الفوسفورية في عملية "الرصاص المصبوب" الإسرائيلية ضد قطاع غزة عام 2008 بالإضافة إلى بعض "الفلاشات" التي تعود إلى اجتياح لبنان عام 1982.
صور مكثفة في مشهدية محمومة تبوح بها قصيدة النثر، إذ يحاول الشاعر إخراجها من ذاتيتها إلى فضاء عام مكتسح بالنار، حيث مصائر البشر وبقية الكائنات هنا تفتح باباً للسؤال عن النجاة، وإلى السؤال الأكثر تعقيداً عن الوجود المفضي إلى الحياة.
قصيدة سعيد الشيخ تشبه نفسها، إذ تؤسس فرادتها من مفرداتها وسطورها؛ لتصنع إطارها التركيبي المنفلت من قوالب جاهزة لتمضي إلى مقاصدها القريبة والذاتية.
