عبد الغني بن إسماعيل بن عبد الغني النابلسي الدمشقي الحنفي (1050 هـ - 1143 هـ / 1641 - 1731م) شاعر شامي وعالم بالدين والأدب ورحالة مكثر من التصنيف. ولد ونشأ وتصوف في دمشق. قضى سبع سنوات من عمره في دراسة كتابات "التجارب الروحيّة" لِفُقهاء الصوفية. وقد تعدّدت رحلاته عبر العالم الإسلامي، إلى إسطنبول ولبنان والقدس وفلسطين ومصر والجزيرة العربية وطرابلس وباقي البلاد السورية. استقر في مدينته دمشق وتوفي فيها.

جمع المؤلف ما جاء في معنى الرؤيا وفي تفسيرها. وقد أتى الكتاب مرتباً على حروف المعجم في أبواب. وضم كل باب مفردات ضمت أسماء ومباني، أشار المؤلف إلى ما ترمز إليه في عالم تفسير الرؤيا. والكتاب، بمجمله، وعلى ضوء المقارنة العلمية أو المقابلة بين مدلول الحلم في الغابر والحاضر، وتحكي جدية الذين تصدوا لهذا الجانب من التحليل النفسي في الماضي والحاضر، وكل ما بين طروحات السابقين والمتأخرين من فوارق أنواعها، على ضوء ذلك يبين الكتاب ارتكاز أولئك على "الرؤيا الصالحة" التي تستمد أهم عناصرها ومقوماتها من الوحي الالهي وما منح البارئ عز وجل للأخيار والأبرار من مناقب برعاية علوية من التعبير القديم، ومن ثم استناد المعاصرين على الاستنتاج المنطقي الذي تمليه السببية العلمية والفكر الثابت.
