محمد بن سيرين البصري، الأنصاري بالولاء، أبو بكر: إمام وقته في علوم الدين بالبصرة.
تابعي. من أشراف الكتاب. مولده ووفاته في البصرة.
نشأ بزازا، في أذنه صمم. وتفقه وروى الحديث، واشتهر بالورع وتعبير الرؤيا.
واستكتبه أنس بن مالك، بفارس. وكان أبوه مولى لأنس.
ينسب له كتاب (تعبير الرؤيا - ط) ذكره ابن النديم، وهو غير (منتخب الكلام في تفسير الأحلام) المطبوع، المنسوب إليه أيضا، وليس له .

"كتاب تفسير الأحلام" أحد الكتب التي كان لها في الناس أجمل الأثر، فقد انتفعوا به في زمن الحداثة انتفاعاً كبيراً في ميولهم واعتقاداتهم ونزعاتهم العلمية، ولا يزال أثر هذا الانتفاع القديم عهده إلى يومنا هذا، والذي ينهض دليلاً على صدق هذه الدعوة ومطابقتها للحقيقة أنك قلما وجدت امرأً من ذوي الرأي والمكانة سبقت له بالكتاب معرفة إلا وجدته كثير الأطراء له والثناء عليه والإشادة بذكره.
وقد قمنا على هذا السفر النفيس من حيث معارضة المتن على بعض النسخ المعتمدة، وضبط أبوابه ونصوصه وعباراته وشرح مفرداته، مع تقريب المعاني بعبارة سهلة وإسلوب قريب المتناول، وكل هذا على حروف المعجم، ليكون الغرض باعثاً على الانتفاع بالكتاب خصوصاً للمبتدئين في "تفسير الأحلام" ومن في حكمهم.
