إن لله عز وجل خواص في الأمكنة والأزمنة والأشخاص, فمن هذه الأمكنة (دمشق المحروسة) التي حباها الله تعالى بمزايا كثيرة لا حصر لها على الإطلاق. هذه البلدة التي هي أقدم مدينة عرفها التاريخ. فلقد اختارها الله تعالى من بين سائر بلاده لتكون مهبط وحيه ونشوء رسالته للبشرية بادىء ذي بدىء ومن ثم اختتمت بأرض الحجاز حيث كانت خاتمة الرسالات هناك, وصفوة بلاده. وكانت دمشق ولا تزال محج العلماء وطلبة العلم من أقطار العالم الإسلامي. ويسلط المؤلف الأضواء على دمشق من خلال كتابه لمعرفة المزيد عن هذه البلدة التي أحاطها الله تعالى برعايته وحفظه وأمانه. وقد ثبت عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال: عليكم بالشام فإنها خيرة الله في أرضه, وإليها يجتبي خيرته من عباده. وهذا وإن دل على شيء فإنما يدل على عظمة هذه البلدة.
