الشيء الذي قرره هذا اليوم هو الذهاب إلى صديقه القديم "يام" لعله يخرج بمعادلة إنسانية تعيده إلى صوابه، بعد هذا المخاض العيجب، والصراع النفسي الرهيب بين ذات تهفو إلى المال، وغرائز تقتفي متع اللذة، وبين روح بسيطة تود ألا تلوثها جنونيات المادة في تضاعيف (العاصمة الوسطى)، وما جاورها من عواصم الخلجان المترامية على بحر الظمأ المدجج بزرقة لا توحي بصفاء، إنما بخباء ممكن للملح والبارود والثورة كبركان في أي وقت. مع الغروب الحيادي انكسب في أوردة "شام" هواء الشتاء البارد... هذا الذي يكون فيه الناس أشد حزناً، وإقتراباً من الحطب المشتعل والمدفئ بأنواعها، فأمام باب الغرفة في سكن شركة (النجمة البيضاء) التي قضى فيها بعضاً من سني الغربة الخمس قبل أن يفر منها إلى عالم شركة (فك المارد) وسيدها "شيهانة الصقر". هجس قلبه في حزن قديم حينما لم يجد في تلك الفترة إلا مزيداً من العناء اليومي الذي لم يفارقه حتى الآن وإن تغيرت صورة العناء فبات الآن أكثر هماً وأعمق حزناً.
