يتناول الكتاب الحديث عن موضوعين هامين هما: الموضوع الأول: نادرة تاريخية واجتماعية, شهد له المؤرخون بأنه أول مرجع تاريخي للأعراس في القرن العاشر الهجري وهو يشدد على بناء الأسرة, وتقوية دعائمها, منذ بدء اختيار الزوجة, ويبين للزوجة حقوقها, ويطالب الرجل بإحسان المعاملة معها, ثم يأتي الى بيان ما يقع في الأعراس من مخالفات بعيدة عن الدين والحياء, ويندد بالمباهاة والرياء, ذلك الداء الذي سرى في مجتمعاتنا فأحالتها الى مجتمعات فارغة القلب جوفاء, قصدها المفاخرة والتظاهر بالغنى من أجل المجتمع, ولفت انتباه الناس. أما الموضوع الثاني فيتحدث عن فضائل سكنى الشام, ويذكر المؤلف جملة من الأحاديث الصحيحة الواردة في الترغيب في سكناها وفضلها على ما سواها, مع ذكر أقوال كثير من العلماء والمؤرخين في مستحسناتها وما تتميز به عن غيرها. وبالجملة فهو كتاب فريد في موضوعه الأول الذي نقض فيه الكثير مما ساد في أذهان الناس من المعتقدات الباطلة والعادات البالية, ونفيس في موضوعه الثاني الذي يؤرخ لدمشق ولحماة وفضلهما.
