يأتي هذا الكتاب ضمن الكتب التي تهدف إلى تحرير المرأة المسلمة من ربقة الأعراف والتقاليد التي حدّت من حقها في التمتع بالكثير من الحقوق التي ضَمِنها لها الإسلام، أُسوة بالرجل. ويرمي إلى معالجة إشكالية منع المرأة من الخروج من البيت إلا بإذن، وفي حالة الضرورة فحسب، كما ذهب إليه بعض الفقهاء والمفسرين وغيرهم، خصوصًا أن خروج المرأة من البيت لا يزال مصدر مشكلات كثيرة بين الأزواج، فضلًا عن تواصل مناقشته في الفكر الإسلامي الحديث.
يعالج الكتاب هذه المسألة مقدمًا الشبهات التي تعتري منع المرأة من الخروج من البيت، ثم الدلائل على جواز خروجها منه، وانعكاسات هذا المنع على وضعيتها ومجهودات ترقيتها، خصوصًا في المغرب الذي يتخذه الكتاب أنموذجًا للدراسة، حيث لا قانون يمنع المرأة من ممارسة مختلف التصرّفات المشروعة، بما في ذلك خروجها من البيت والتجارة والعمل والسفر، إلا أن مغربيات كثيرات لا يزلن مكبلات، يرزحن تحت أعرافٍ وتقاليد يبدو الانعتاق منها صعبًا إلى الآن.
