إن من ينظر في الحسبة يجد أن لها تاريخاً عريقاً ليس منذ نشأة الرسالة المحمدية فقط، ولكن منذ عصر سيدنا شعيب عليه السلام وكما سنتحدث، وإذا ما ولينا وجوهنا إلى تطبيق الحسبة في المجال الذي يستهلكه الفرد نجد أن لها دوراً عظيماً في حياة المستهلك وحمايته من استغلال البائع له، أو ارتكابه الغش بكافة صوره وأساليبه، أو تطفيفه في الكيل والميزان، كما أن الحسبة أيضًا تحمي المستهلك من إبرام عقود البيع المحرمة أو المنهى عنها مع بعض البائعين.
كذلك أيضًا فإن الحسبة كما تحمي المستهلك من البائع ومخالفته مما هو مفروض عليه كما سبق، فإنها أي الحسبة تحمي البائع أيضًا من تغرير بعض المشترين وذلك كما سيتضح فيما بعد.
وعلى هذا جرى تقسيم هذا البحث إلى فصل تمهيدي وأربعة فصول رئيسية وخاتمة: "الفصل التمهيدي: مفهوم الحسبة وأدلتها والغرض منها وأنواعها وتمييزها عن غيرها، الفصل الأول: دور الحسبة في تفقد البائعين والمنتجين وأدواتهم وأثرها في حماية المستهلك، الفصل الثاني: دور الحسبة في عقود البيوع المنهى عنها وأثرها في حماية المستهلك، الفصل الثالث: دور والي الحسبة في تسعير السلع وأثر ذلك في حماية المستهلك، الفصل الرابع: دور الحسبة في حماية البائعين من تغرير المشترين، الخاتمة: وقد ذكرت فيها أهم نتائج البحث التي توصلت إليها".
