وقد كان قناع المتنبي في الكتاب ، أمس المكان الآن قناعاً عميقاً شمولياً ، استطاع على مدى ثلاثة أجزاء ، أن يحافظ على بنائيته ، وكليته ، على الرغم من أن حضور المتنبي في الكتاب يختلف من جزء إلى آخر ، ومن قسم إلى آخر ، وطريقة توظيفه أيضاً مختلفة وغير متوازية ، ولكن على الأغلب نجد أن صوت أدونيس اختفى وذاب في صوت القناع ، فكان له حضور قوي وفاعلٌ ، تاريخياً ، وفكرياً ، ودلالياً .
