إن في هذا الكتاب المعنون بــ (جهاد ولاة الأندلس في آيبيريا وخلف جبال البرتات)، تناول فيه الكاتب جانباً هاماً من جوانب تاريخ عصر ولاة الأندلس (92- 138هــ / 710- 755م)، لأن هذه الحقبة - على قصرها - تعد في غاية الأهمية في حركة الفتوحات العربية الإسلامية، ففيها وضع الأساس للكثير من المقومات التي ارتكزت عليها دعائم الحكم الإسلامي رغم انبجاس منابع عديدة للمتاعب والخلافات التي واجهت الولاة ورجالات الحكم إلى آخر شوط في تلك الولاية.
وإكتسبت دراسة هذه الفترة شهرة بالفتوحات في آيبيرية وخلف جبال البرتات (أرض الغال في جنوب فرنسا)، تلك التي قام بها بعض الولاة بدوافع كثيرة في مقدمتها نشر العقيدة الإسلامية هناك، وتميزت أيضاً بالفتن الداخلية التي هبت عواصفها بين العرب والقبائل المغربية وبين العرب والعرب بوجه آخر.
فبالرغم من وقوع العديد من المشكلات التي كثيراً ما حرمت الولاة من التمتع بنعمة الأمن والإستقرار، فقد دعي الأندلس أو تاريخ الأندلي بـ (تاريخ الفردوس المفقود)، إذ أنه كان قطراً فريداً في بابه في دولة الإسلام، وتاريخه عميقاً عريضاً، تنفرد كل ناحية منه بخصائص ومميزات جديرة بالبحث والتأمل والإعجاب، وفي مقدمة هذه النواحي موضوع كتابنا هذا، وهو الدور الذي كان لبعض ولاة الأندلس في القارة الأوروبية في الأندلس وخارجها، وذلك كفتوحاتهم في آيبيريا وخلف البرتات أي (الأرض الكبيرة) التي رفعوا فوقها أعلامهم حقباً طويلة من الزمن وأثروا فيها آثاراً كثيرة أثيرة، فإن هذا الدور من أدوارهم يكاد يكون عند أبنائهم مجهولاً بل إن كثيراً من ناشئتهم لا يعرفون عنه كثيراً ولا قليلاً.
