لقد مضى على صدور فهارس مخطوطات علوم القرآن الكريم في دار الكتب الوطنية الظاهرية والتي وضعها الدكتور عزة حسن قرابة عشرين عاماً إذ صدرت عام 1963م، وقد نفذت هذه الفهارس منذ فترة طويلة ودخل دار الكتب الظاهرية بعد هذا التاريخ عدد لا يستهان به من المصاحف والأجزاء وكتب علوم القرآن الكريم المختلفة.
ولمّا كان الباحثون والمهتمون بالتراث عامة وبعلوم القرآن الكريم خاصة يسألون عن هذه الفهارس فلا يحصلون عليها، وجدت من واجبي وبعد أن صدر لي الجزء الثاني من فهارس كتب الطب والصيدلة أن أتابع المسيرة التي بدأتها فأضع فهرساً جديداً لعلوم القرآن الكريم أضمنه جميع المصاحف والكتب المتعلقة بهذا العلم الشريف.
وقد اتبعت في هذه الفهرسة الطريقة التي تعطي الباحث الكريم فكرة كاملة عن المخطوط إذ أذكر فاتحته وخاتمته ووصفاً كاملاً للكتاب يتضمن معلومات عن الزمن الذي نسخ فيه مع اسم الناسخ ونوع الخط، والحبر، وعدد الأوراق وقياس الصفحات وعدد الأسطر في كل صفحة إلى غير ذلك من الأوصاف التي تفيد الباحث المهتم بهذه العلوم - كما ذكرت في خاتمة الوصف بعض المصادر التي تحدثت عن المؤلف أو الكتاب.
وقد وضعت نجمة صغيرة بجانب كل كتاب ورد ذكره في الفهرس السابق وهي إشارة تفيد الباحثين الذين يسلكون الفهرس السابق، ونظراً لكثرة عدد المصاحف والكتب التي فهرست في هذا المجال فقد قسمت العمل إلى قسمين يؤلف كل منهما جزءاً خاصاً.
الجزء الأول: ويحوي: المصاحف - كتب التجويد - كتب القراءات، الجزء الثاني: ويحوي: كتب علوم القرآن الكريم - كتب التفسير الكريم راجياً من الله تعالى الثواب في يوم ينفع فيه الصادقين صدقهم، ويوفى كل إنسان أجره.
