في تلك الليلة رأى نيكيتا نفسه في المنام في بزّةٍ زرقاء بأزرار فضّيّة وقد وقف أمام ليليا وقال لها بخشونة:
- خذي رسالتك.
لكنّه استيقظ عندما تلفّظ هاتين الكلمتين، ثم غفا ورأى نفسه من جديد وهو يشير على الأرضيّة اللمّاعة ويقول لليليا:
- خذي رسالتك.
كانت أهداب ليليا الطويلة ترتفع وتنخفض، وأنفها الصغير الأشم ينمّ عن الكبرياء والاغتراب، ولكن هذا الأنف يكاد يتخلّص من الاغتراب والوجه كلّه يكاد يبتسم.
واستيقظ نيكيتا وتلفّت حواليه، ضوءٌ غريبٌ من فانوس الشارع يستقرّ على الجدار... ورأى في المنام ثانية نفس ذلك الحلم، لم يكن في اليقظة أبداً يحبّ بهذا القدر تلك البنت الأحجية.
