تعدّدت المقاربات التي تناولت مسألة الحريّة، وتنوّعت منطلقاتها المعرفيّة وخلفيّاتها الفكريّة، وظلّ مفهوم المقدّس محور كثير من المؤلفات التي أسّست به شرعيّتها أو اشتغلت به موضوعاً لدرسها، ولكن قليلاً ما تناول الدّارسون مسألة الصّدام بين الحريّة والمقدّس تناولاً حضاريّاً ينزّل الموضوع في إطار تاريخيّ محدد، ويتّخذ من تاريخ تونس وحاضرها أرضيّة لمقاربة المسألة وتفكيكها.
فقد كان هاجس كثير من المؤرخين والباحثين دراسة خصائص تجربة "خير الدّين التونسيّ" الإصلاحيّة، وتناول بعضٌ منهم بالدّرس دعوة "الطّاهر الحدّاد" إلى الحريّة النسويّة في كتابه (امرأتنا في الشريعة والمجتمع)، وحللّ البعض الآخر طابع الحكم وأوضاع المجتمع بعد الإستقلال وزمن بناء الدولة الوطنيّة، وفتنت "ثورة الرّبيع العربي" فريقاً من المفكّرين ليحلّلوا واقعها ويستشرفوا آفاقها، ولكن نادراً ما تمّ الوصل بين هذه التجارب في كتاب واحد إنطلاقاً من إشكاليّة الصّدام بين الحريّة والمقدّس.
ولهذا، فالكتاب مقاربةٌ نقديّة لمواطن الصّدام بين حركة التحوّل التي تفرضها نوازع الأحرار وثوابت المنظومة التي يعدُّها أصحابها مقدّسة، ومحاولةٌ لتفهّم الصّراع التأويلي وإدراك آليّاته المنهجيّة والإجرائيّة، ولئن كان هاجس المتنازعين تحقيق المعادلة الصّعبة بين إدراك منازل الحريّة وبين الخوف من ذوبان الهويّة وتسلّط القوى الإستعماريّة، فقد كان هاجسنا البحثيّ تفكيك خطاب الفريقين تفكيكاً جدليّاً غايته فكّ الإشتباك وتفهّم المسارات التاريخيّة التي سلكتها مشاريع الإصلاح وأسهمت في بناء الدّولة الوطنيّة والثورة إنطلاقاً من العيّنة التونسيّة.
