درستُ المواريث من "تحفة الملوك" و"القدوري" و"الإختيار" مرَّات عديدة، وكنت أعزم دائماً على أن أجمع كتاباً مختصراً في الفرائض أركن فيه إلى "شرح السِّراجية" و"الفوائد البهية" وأُضيف لهما بعض الزَّوائد والشَّوارد، وأكثر فيه من المسائل وحلِّها، وأهتمّ فيه بالتَّرتيب والتَّنظيم والتَّسهيل لهذا العلم.
وبقيت هذه الرَّغبة تراودني حتى يسرّ الله تعالى ذلك، وكُلِّفت بتدريس مادة أحوال شخصية (3)، وتشتمل على الوصايا والفرائض، فأسرعت إلى تحقيق المقصود بهذا السِّفر العظيم الذي سَمَّيتُه: "المنهاج الوجيز في فقه الوصايا والفرائض".
واهتممتُ فيه بما ذكرت سابقاً، حتى أنني لم أُوَثّق ما اعتمدت فيه على "شرح السِّراجية" و"الفوائد"؛ لكثرة اعتمادي عليهما، ولئلا أطيل في التَّوثيق مما كان أصلاً للكتاب.
وأضفت إليه فصلاً في أحكام الوصايا، وتمهيداً في مقدّمات متعلِّقة بالفرائض من تعريفه وأهميته وموضوعه واستمداده والميراث عند الأمم السَّابقة وأهم المؤلَّفات فيه وغيرها.
