يأتي هذا الكتاب في إطار مشروع موسوعة الحديث النبوي، وذلك خدمة للسنة النبوية الشريفة. وجاءت منهجية على النمو التالي: اشتماله على الكتب المطبوعة والرسائل الجامعية فقط، دون الكتب المدرسية والجامعية المقررة على الطلاب، والنشرات، وبحوث المؤتمرات والندوات والاجتماعات، واللقاءات العلمية، والمقالات المنشورة في الدوريات، تصنيف المواد الحديثة وفقاً لتصنيف الدكتور عبد الوهاب أبو النور الوارد بكتابه" (التصنيف الببليوجرافى لعلوم الدين الإسلامي) مع إضافات منهجية جديدة، مثل: بلاغة ونمو وقصص وأمثال الحديث، التصحيف والتحريف، شبهات وردود دفع مطاعين، الحديث والعلوم الأخرى، مرويات ومساند الصحابة رضي اله عنهم، الأدعية والأذكار... اعتماد الكتب الحديثة المباشرة في هذا الدليل. وضع المجامع والحواشي تحت عناوينها الجامعة، مع الإشارة إلى عناوينها المتفرقة في "كشاف العناوين".
أخذ كل كتاب رقماً متسلسلا،ً فإذا تعددت طبعات الكتاب واحد، أعطى رقم لكل طبقة ما دام كان فيها تغيير حيوي، جمع فهارس كتب الحديث مع بعضها البعض، ولم يوضح كل فهرس عند كتابه، صنع فهرسان وكشافان لهذا الدليل. ويمكن القول بأن هذا الدليل جاء سداً لفراغ كبير في المكتبة الإسلامية، التي لم تحو، حتى الآن عملاً مستقلاٍ مثل هذا، كما أنه جمع في حياته عناوين أمهات كتب الحديث الشريف، ومراجعة الأساسية في موضوعاته المختلفة، مع احتوائه على أكثر الكتب التراثية المطبوعة في هذا الشأن.
