إن من يقرأ ما كتب ونشر حول تاريخ التعليم في البحرين يشعر بنوع من الإرتباك حيال خطابين مختلفين يشتمل عليهما النصّ الواحد أو الرواية الواحدة.
فمن ناحية أولى، لا يسع القارئ إلا أن ينبهر بالمكانة الّتي تحتلّها مدرسة الهداية الخليفيّة في صدور المؤرخين الذين يشعرونك، من خلال النصّ الأدبيّ المستخدم في الوصف والمدح، بأنك أمام صرح قد امتزج بنيانه المادي بنفحةٍ من الروحانيّة تجعل الحديث عنه مفعماً بالفخر والإعتزاز حيناً، وملفوفاً بالرهبة والقدسيّة حيناً آخر، ومطروحاً على أنّه من الرموز الوطنيّة المحاطة بجدار كثيف من البطولات والأمجاد يحجب الرؤية إلى حدّ كبير عن كل من يجرؤ على البحث عن الجذور والتعمّق في المكنونات ونبش الخفايا، فالكتابات التاريخيّة المخلتفة تتبنّى صورةً موحدةً لمدرسة الهداية الخليفيّة تركز فيها على دور الريادة في التأسيس للتعليم النظاميّ والمباشرة فيه في البحرين، فضلاً عن الدور الطليعيّ المسند إليها على مستوى المنطقة بكاملها.
ومن ناحية ثانية، يجد القارئ نفسه، بعد أن يقاطع الأحداث وأزمنتها، غير قادر على إستيعاب جميع الصفات الملصقة بهذه المدرسة، وعلى تبنّي جميع آيات التعظيم الّتي من أجلها أنشئت مدرسة الهداية الخليفيّة، من جهةٍ أولى؛ وحول طبيعة الأدوار المنسوبة إليها، من جهة ثانية.
إنّ من يقرأ الكتابات الكثيرة والمتنوّعة حول مدرسة الهداية لا بدّ من ان ينتابه، ولو للحظةٍ فقط، إحساس ضبابيّ بإحتمال وجود إتّفاق ضمنيّ بين الأغلبيّة الساحقة من المؤرّخين لهذه المؤسّسة على إبراز دورها الطليعيّ في دفع التعليم النظاميّ في دولة البحرين وفي المنطقة، وذلك دون مزيد من الشرح حول كيفيّة الإضطلاع بهذا الدور، ودون الدخول في التفاصيل التربويّة والتنظيميّة والإجتماعيّة والإقتصاديّة أو في دورة العمل اليوميّة للمدرسة المذكورة، وكأنّ المطلوب هو الشهادة لفضل هذه المدرسة على التعليم النظاميّ بغضّ النظر عن طبيعة الدور الذي يفترض أنّها لعبته لتحقيق ما نسب إليها من تأثيرات، وبغض النظر عن حيثيّات القيام به.
