استغرقت قضية الإمامة جزء كبيراً من مذاهب الإسلام المختلفة، فهل تنصيب الإمام من الواجبات الدينية أم لا، ولم كان من قبيلة أو أسرة واحدة، وما مدى مصداقية هذا الشرط؟ وهل هو لازم فى كل العصور حتى بعد فناء قريش، وكيف اختلف المسلمون الأوائل حول إمامة المفضول فى وجود الفاضل والأفضل، كما أن الشورى، كركيزة من ركائز الحكم الإسلامى الراشد، كان لها حظ من التناول، من حيث وجوب الإلتزام بها أو الجواز، يأتى بعد ذلك موقف المسلمين من الثورة على الحاكم الظالم والخروج عليه.
وقد علمنا ديننا أن لكل أمة ما كسبت وعليها ما اكتسبت، لم يفرض علينا ديننا الفداء لما حدث بين أسلافنا، ولا الفداء والخلاصة عقيدة فيه، فإن تفاعلنا بالإيجابى والحقيقى من فكرنا، وعذرنا أنفسنا أولاً عما حدث من أسلافنا، من أجل صالح الأمة، والأمة وحسب، التى كانت خير أمة أخرجت للناس. ولذلك قمنا بكتابة مقدمة فى قضية الإمامة عند المسلمين، لنرى كيف عالجوا كثيراً من المسائل ذات الطابع السياسى والذى أملاها الواقع أو كانت إحدى نتائجه، وبيان الإيجابى من هذه القضايا والسلبى، لعل ذلك يكون منطلقاً جديداً لتنشيط الفكر السياسى الإسلامى نحو الوحدة. وأعقبنا ذلك بتحقيق رسالة القاسم بن إبراهيم الرسى ت 246 هـ فى رده على الروافض فى زعمهم مسألة الوصى والدور.
