هذا الكتاب، هو الجزء الثالث، من سلسلة دراساتنا عن الفرق الإسلامية المصنفة في خانة "الباطنية"، وقد سبقه إلى الظهور، الجزء الأول، (العلويون بين الأسطورة والحقيقة)، والجزء الثاني، (الإسماعيلية بين الحقائق والأباطيل)، وها هو الجزء الثالث، (الدروز في مواجهة التاريخ).
ولم يكن سهلاً، اختيار عنوان الكتاب، لأن عنوان أي كتاب، يجب أن يكون دالاً على مضمونه طبقاً للمثل الشعبي القائل: "المكتوب يُقرأ من عنوانه".
وعلى الرغم من قناعتنا، بأن الإسم الحقيقي لهذه الطائفة، هو الموحدون، فقد اخترنا اسم الدروز، لسببين: الأول: لأن كتب التاريخ، تطلق عليهم هذا الإسم، وتعاملنا كان، بالدرجة الأولى، مع هذه الكتب، الثاني: هذا الإسم هو الشائع على ألسنة الناس، منذ القديم، يذكرونه بصورة عفوية، بعيدة عن كل قصد سيّئ.
ومن خلال تتبعنا لأخبار الدروز في الكتب والمصادر، جذب إنتباهنا أن المؤلفات، التي تحدّثت عن الفرق والملل والنحل لم تتضمن أية إشارة إلى الدروز، مع أن بعض أصحاب هذه المؤلفات، كالبغدادي، كان معاصراً للحاكم، ولظهور الدعوة الدرزية.
