في زمن كثرت فيه القواميس ثنائية اللغة العامة منها والمتخصصة لا بد لكل قاموس جديد من مبرر قوي، وإلا فهو مضيعة للوقت، والإقلاع عن الفكرة من أساسها أولى في هذه الحالة.
إن الأهمية البالغة للمتلازمات اللفظية في اللغة والترجمة من حيث تحقيقها لأقصى درجات الدقة في استخدام اللغة الجميل والصحيح والمضبوط والمتناسق تناسقاً بلاغياً بارعاً يقوم اللسان ويأخذ بالألباب، هذه الأهمية قمينة بأن تنال قسطها من الدراسة والتركيز والانتباه، وتتبوأ مكانتها المناسبة التي تستحقها في صدارة قواميس اللغة ومعاجمها. فكفاها ما لاقته من تجاهل وإهمال لم يكن مقصوداً على أية حال. أتى هذا القاموس المتخصص في المتلازمات اللفظية كأول خطوة في هذا الاتجاه لعله يسد قدراً من النقص في هذا الصدد، لا سيما وأن التخصص في القواميس أصبح سمة من سمات زماننا التخصص في كل شيء تقريباً. هذا ويعرض القاموس المتلازمات في سياقاتها النسبية أحياناً والكاملة أحياناً أخرى.
من جهة أخرى، يحاول أعداء العربية النيل من فصاحتها وبلاغتها وبهائها وأصالتها وعراقتها من خلال التعريض بالمتلازمات اللفظية والاستهزاء بها والدعوة إلى هجرها وتغييبها من الاستخدام الفصيح للغة العربية باعتبارها "دقة قديمة"! –في لغتهم- كما يزعمون. ويطلقون الدعوات إلى إحلال اللغة الحديثة المعصرنة!، بل وحتى العامية محلها لسهولة فهمها حسب زعمهم.
وفي هذا الموضوع يأتي القاموس الذي بين يدينا وهو موجه للشريحة الأكبر من جمهور القراء العام، والمتخصص أيضاً. فلكل تخصص علمي أو حقل معرفة النصيب الوافر في القاموس. كما أن القاموس موجه بسوية واحدة إلى متعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية المهتمين بدقة الاستعمال السياقي المتلازم والمتوارد للألفاظ والعبارات والتعابير في كلا اللغتين. وربما كان القسط الأكبر من الفائدة من نصيب المترجمين وطلاب الترجمة واللغة الإنجليزية.
